Mesotherapy has been practiced for over 50 years in France where there are over 15,000 physicians who successfully use this technique. It is useful for body sculpting, fat reduction and improving cellulite and is a sought after alternative to costly and invasive surgical techniques such as liposuction. After treatment sessions are completed the skin is tighter, smoother and more contoured resulting in a more favorable cosmetic appearance.

The Science behind Mesotherapy and Body Contouring

Mesotherapy targets fat cells by decreasing the size of the fat cells.   On the surface of our fat cells are Alpha receptors and Beta receptors. When stimulated, Alpha receptors cause fat cells to store fat and Beta receptors cause fat cells to burn fat.  Alpha receptors are stimulated by carbohydrates, fats, amino acids and alcohol. Men have a one to one ratio of Beta to Alpha receptors. Women from the waist down have a 1 to 5 ratio of Beta to Alpha

receptors distribution. That is why a woman has a harder time losing weight than a man. Mesotherapy works by injecting medication into the fatty tissue targeting these receptors. The result is that fat gets released from the cells causing fat cells to shrink, leaving a more attractive and healthier body. Where does this fat go when it is melted by mesotherapy? Free fatty acids are taken up by the muscles as calories, glycerol is recycled by the liver and water is excreted.

Aesthetic Mesotherapy

Aesthetic Mesotherapy is a medical procedure to treat unwanted localized fat deposits in the body. It involves the use of medications, amino acids and vitamins which are micro-injected under the skin where there is unsightly  fat which won't disappear despite proper diet and regular exercise. It has been used successfully to treat fat on the thighs, buttocks, abdomen, hips, love handles, bra bulge on back, above knees and back of arms.

Can Mesotherapy help me with cellulite?

In addition to general fat reduction, Mesotherapy is also used in treating cellulite. Cellulite are lumpy fat deposits often seen in the superficial layers of the skin on the legs, hips and buttocks. Liposuction does not treat cellulite and may possibly make cellulite more pronounced. Cellulite mesotherapy treatments target problem areas and actually break down the cellulite, resulting in a smoother skin surface. With Mesotherapy, fat cells shrink in treated areas and the body does not compensate by gaining weight back in other areas, as may be common with liposuction.

Cellulite is the result of water being retained in fat cells and eventually the cells harden and cause a lumpy, bulging effect in the skin otherwise known as a "cottage cheese" appearance. Some of the reasons for cellulite are poor circulation, poor connective tissue, fat cell herniation and hormonal imbalances. Wearing underwear that constricts areas on the buttocks and the thighs can increase the incidence of cellulite. Mesotherapy can effectively treat cellulite by:

                  o Improved lymphatic drainage

o Removal of excess fat deposits

o Removal of hardened connective tissue

o Increased blood flow to the affected areas

Will Mesotherapy be the “magic” therapy to help me lose weight?

Mesotherapy is not designed as a weight loss program. Mesotherapy can help you lose unwanted fat but you must also take responsibility for your weight by eating a healthy diet and exercising appropriately. Mesotherapy is an effective medical treatment that can improve skin appearance and decrease body fat but it is only one component to an improved self image. Eating correctly, exercising and balancing your hormones will help you become healthier from the inside to the outside. Mesotherapy will give you the added benefit of a smoother and firmer body image.
